User-centred design (UCD) balances customer needs with business requirements to find the win/win.

It is a design philosophy that mitigates many of the risks associated with digital and multichannel projects.
UCD involves the customer at every stage, from requirements gathering and concept testing through to late-stage design validation.
Critics of user-centred design cite the additional time and cost of iterating design with customers. They also worry that continual reference to customer needs and preferences stifles creativity.
We consider both these arguments to be spurious. Think instead about the financial and reputational costs of delivering an experience which does not please customers and does not meet your business objectives.
