Great design maximises the value created for both our clients and their customers. But often the needs of clients and users are not aligned: we need to develop a deep understanding of both so that we can open up and explore the creative possibilities. Your job is to shape our approach to projects, create a vision for the user experience, and push the teams working with you to deliver brilliant, effective work.
Reporting to the Experience Design Director, you’ll form a team which looks after a group of client relationships and a wide range of design and research projects. Drawing on your deep understanding of your clients’ business objectives, past projects and future ambitions you will have a point of view and provide expert direction, which balances the needs of the business with customers.
You’ll work as part of this team to turn client opportunities into proposals and proposals into successful projects. In particular, the team will look to you to suggest the right methods and working practices to deliver great work.
Ultimately you will be responsible for both the quality of the briefs coming in, and the quality of the work going out. In the early stages of projects you will create a sense of direction and leadership, often for large teams with diverse skills. As insights and solutions emerge you will challenge colleagues on their relevance and value to both the client and the end user – always bringing our focus back to the business problem we are trying to solve.
We’ll also expect you to share your knowledge and perspectives with the outside world. We will give you opportunities to write and speak publicly, so that you can add your voice to the discussion about our emerging field of design.
Your extensive experience working in a design and build agency and/or a management consultancy will have given you a thorough working knowledge of a wide range of research and design techniques, and you’ll know how to stitch these together as each project requires.
An able communicator, you’ll be in dialogue with both our clients and the studio. You’ll to be able to express your thinking and advice both conversationally and in written form, persuading people of your point of view and creating the trust needed for them follow your advice. To do this you’ll need an easy style with our clients, and demonstrate your commitment to their business.
You will have a natural sense of ownership and accountability. Even though many hands will be involved in the projects you oversee, the quality and effectiveness of the design solution will be your responsibility. This will also mean you have an acute eye for detail and can manage your own time and priorities to be in the right time and place to influence the success of our work.
You’ll have a commercial awareness that naturally leads you towards lean, effective ways to understand and solve problems. That will also mean you’re keen to try new tools and techniques to create value for Foolproof and its clients.
You’ll need to show a long-standing commitment to your field, so you’ll have at least a bachelor’s degree (or something equivalent) in design, applied research or a subject closely relevant to experience design.
