Nicole Harlow

Principal Consultant

As a Principal Consultant, I hold close relationships with some of the world’s biggest brands. Being aligned to specific clients enables me to develop a deep understanding of how their businesses work and what they are trying to achieve as part of their longer-term strategy.

Whether I am acting as insight lead on a piece of work or ensuring the overall quality of thinking across a project as an Experience Planner, it is my responsibility to ensure that our work delivers insightful, actionable and creative outputs. I thrive on working at the forefront of the latest digital designs, products and services; collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to create solutions that meet both the needs of the user and the business.

Coming into my fifth year at Foolproof, I have worked on a number of research and design projects, across various platforms and sectors; Financial services, travel, retail and telecommunications being my specialisms. I have experience across a broad range of formative and evaluative research methodologies and enjoy spending time mentoring others and supporting the development of our insights practice.

Having graduated in Industrial Design and Technology at Loughborough University, I have a strong background in product and service design. No matter what the experience, be it a digital platform, product or service, I find it fascinating to watch how users behave and interact with the digital world around them. Through my experiences, I have developed the view that successful innovation and experiences come from gaining insight into behaviour and not just from creating something new in isolation. Keeping on top of emerging user behaviours and trends is something I’m passionate about.

In recent years I have developed a love for all things mobile. Last year I was fortunate to conduct ethnographic research in Seoul in South Korea as part of a proprietary research project to explore emerging behaviours around mobile proximity technologies (m-commerce and loyalty in particular). The learnings and insight we were able to take away from being in the wild for just 3 days was incredible and it was exciting to be able to share this with my clients and the wider business on my return.

Complimenting my passion for mobile, I’m fascinated by what happens when digital meets physical and am excited by the opportunities it presents in the future. I believe users emerging behaviours in this space will be important to watch as their demand to stay connected to the digital world without disconnecting from the real one will become ever more important.

I have grown up with a love of music. Having recently taught myself to play the guitar and having tried my hand at song-writing, I now aim to take on my next challenge - learning to play the piano!
